In the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the character of Harriman is depicted as a powerful commercial baron whose influence and agents become significant adversaries for the title characters. During the second train robbery in the film, a railroad employee cites his personal obligation to Harriman as the reason for his refusal to cooperate with the robbery. Additionally, a member of Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid's circle mentions that Harriman has hired renowned outlaw-hunters to track down the gang, highlighting the extent of Harriman's commitment to capturing them. This portrayal reflects the real-life impact and prominence of E.H. Harriman, a significant figure in American railroads and business during the early 20th century.

The First Coast Railroad (FCRD), a class III railroad operated by Genesee and Wyoming Inc., operates in Florida and Georgia. The railroad's name reflects its operations around Florida's First Coast. Established in April 2005, the FCRD leases 32 miles of track from CSX, covering routes from Yulee to Fernandina Beach, Florida, and north to Seals. It connects at Yulee to CSX and has a north-south line that was once part of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad before it was replaced by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad’s Atlantic Coast Line main line. The northern section of the line is abandoned past Seals.

Historically, the line from Yulee north into southern Georgia was constructed in 1894 by the Florida Northern Railroad as an extension of the Fernandina and Jacksonville Railroad, connecting to the South Bound Railroad at Savannah, Georgia. The Yulee to Fernandina Beach segment was completed in 1861 by the Florida Railroad, linking Fernandina Beach to Cedar Key. By 1893, these railroads—Florida Railroad, Florida Northern Railroad, Fernandina and Jacksonville Railroad, and South Bound Railroad—had been absorbed into the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad.
