According to the 2020 census, its population stood at 25,518. Many of the original settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony arrived from England during the 1630s, entering through the ports of Lynn and Salem. In 1639, a group of Lynn residents petitioned the colonial government for a "place for an inland plantation," which initially granted them six square miles, later expanded by an additional four. The first settlement established under this grant was initially named "Lynn Village," located on the southern shore of what is now known as Lake Quannapowitt, previously referred to as the "Great Pond." The settlement was officially incorporated as the town of Reading on June 10, 1644, deriving its name from the town of Reading in England.

South Reading, now known as Wakefield, is also located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, within the Greater Boston metropolitan area. Incorporated in 1812, it lies approximately 12.5 miles (20.1 km) north-northwest of Downtown Boston. The population of Wakefield was recorded at 27,090 in the 2020 census. The town provides a variety of recreational activities centered around Lake Quannapowitt.

Stoneham is another town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, located nine miles (14.5 km) north of downtown Boston. The 2020 census reported a population of 23,244. Its advantageous location near major highways and public transportation facilitates easy access to Boston and the coastal regions of the North Shore. Notably, Stoneham is the birthplace of Olympic figure-skating medalist Nancy Kerrigan and is home to the Stone Zoo.

A bond is a document of title for a loan. Bonds are issued, not only by businesses, but also by national, state or city governments, or other public bodies, or sometimes by individuals. Bonds are a loan to the company or other body. They are normally repayable within a stated period of time. Bonds earn interest at a fixed rate, which must usually be paid by the undertaking regardless of its financial results. A bondholder is a creditor of the undertaking.
