P-New, St. Thomas and Prince. São Tomé and Príncipe, formally known as the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, is an island nation situated in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa. The country comprises two archipelagos centered around its two principal islands, São Tomé and Príncipe, which are located approximately 150 kilometers (93.21 miles) apart and about 250 and 225 kilometers (155 and 140 miles) from the northwestern coast of Gabon, respectively. As of the 2018 official estimate, the population of São Tomé and Príncipe stands at 201,800, making it the second smallest and second least populous sovereign state in Africa, following Seychelles.
