The term "boliviano" was previously used for the currency from 1864 until 1963. In April 2018, Pablo Ramos, the manager of the Central Bank of Bolivia, announced the launch of a new series of banknotes for the Plurinational State of Bolivia, beginning with the 10 Bs note and subsequently introducing the 200 Bs note in April 2019. This new series of banknotes has garnered multiple accolades, including recognition as "the best banknotes in Latin America," praised for its security features, aesthetic design, and the representation of significant figures from Bolivian history, earning distinctions at the "Latin American High Security Printing Press Conference."
