Exceptional Collection of 10 Banknotes. The córdoba serves as the official currency of Nicaragua, subdivided into 100 centavos. The inaugural córdoba was established alongside the formation of the National Bank of Nicaragua (Banco Nacional de Nicaragua Incorporado) in 1912. Subsequently, the Monetary Conversion Law was enacted by the government of Adolfo Díaz in March 1912, which instituted the córdoba as the monetary unit. However, due to the political turmoil of the period, the córdoba did not enter circulation until mid-1913.

It replaced the peso moneda corriente at a conversion rate of 12.5 pesos m/c for 1 córdoba and was exchanged with the peso fuerte at par. Initially, its value was nearly equivalent to that of the US dollar. The currency was named in honor of the Conquistador Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. In 1960, the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) was established, taking over the issuance of banknotes and coins from the National Bank of Nicaragua. On February 15, 1988, the second córdoba was introduced, equivalent to 1,000 of the first córdobas. Later, on April 30, 1991, the third córdoba, known as the córdoba oro, was launched, valued at 5,000,000 of the second córdobas.
