Newmont Corporation, headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, is recognized as the largest gold mining entity globally. Established in 1921, the corporation operates gold mines across various locations, including Nevada, Colorado, Ontario, Quebec, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Ghana, Argentina, Peru, and Suriname. Beyond gold, Newmont also extracts copper, silver, zinc, and lead. The company employs approximately 31,600 individuals and contractors worldwide and holds the distinction of being the sole gold mining firm listed in the Standard & Poor's 500 stock market index. In alignment with its commitment to sustainability, Newmont is investing $500 million in renewable energy initiatives through 2025, aiming to achieve a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

The origins of Newmont date back to 1916 when Colonel William Boyce Thompson founded the company in New York as a holding entity for investments in global mineral, oil, and related sectors. According to company history, the name "Newmont" is derived from a combination of "New York" and "Montana," symbolizing Thompson's wealth accumulation and his upbringing. Newmont's initial significant investment in gold occurred in 1917, when it acquired a 25% stake in the Anglo American Corporation of South Africa. In 1921, the company transitioned to its current identity as Newmont Corporation.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
