Cards signed by Supreme Court Justices. Sizes range from 3" x 1 3/4" to 5" x 3". The Supreme Court of the United States serves as the paramount judicial authority within the nation. Established by the Judiciary Act of 1869, its composition includes the chief justice and eight associate justices, with any six justices required to form a quorum. According to Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the Constitution, the president of the United States possesses the exclusive authority to nominate justices, who are then appointed with the advice and consent of the United States Senate; these justices hold their positions for life. The foundation of the Supreme Court is outlined in Article III of the United States Constitution, which asserts that the "judicial power of the United States shall be vested in one Supreme Court." The Court was subsequently organized by the 1st United States Congress. The Judiciary Act of 1789 further defined the Court's original and appellate jurisdiction, established thirteen judicial districts, and determined the number of justices to be six, comprising one chief justice and five associate justices.
