Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Adams Diversified Equity Fund, Inc., previously known as Adams Express Company, is a publicly traded diversified equity fund established in 1854, originating from a 19th-century freight and cargo transport enterprise. The Adams Express Building, erected in 1911, signifies its status as one of the oldest companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: ADX).

It remains one of only five firms that have consistently operated as a closed-end fund since 1929, having paid dividends without interruption since 1935. Adams Funds adheres to a conservative investment strategy, managing its portfolio with the aim of delivering robust returns while minimizing market risk for long-term investors. The investment approach focuses on safeguarding the principal and generating dividends and capital gains, which can serve as income or be reinvested to enhance investor holdings in the Fund.

In 1839, Alvin Adams, a produce merchant affected by the Panic of 1837, began transporting letters, small packages, and valuables for clients between Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts. Initially partnered with Burke, who soon departed, Adams & Company quickly expanded its reach to New York City, Philadelphia, and other eastern cities. By 1847, the company had made significant inroads into the South, and by 1850, it was utilizing rail and stagecoach services to ship goods to St. Louis.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
