Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Incorporated in 1926. American Crane Corporation is a prominent manufacturer of construction cranes located in Wilmington, North Carolina. The company specializes in lattice boom crawler cranes with lifting capacities that range from 50 to 275 tons. Originally founded in 1882 as the Franklin Manufacturing Company, it underwent a name change to American Hoist & Derrick in 1892. The product line includes terrain cranes, crawler cranes, and tower cranes. In 1998, American Crane Corporation was acquired by Terex for $27 million, enhancing Terex's portfolio with a manufacturer of lattice boom cranes.

The Franklin Manufacturing Company was founded in 1884 by Frank Johnson and Oliver Crosby in St. Paul, Minnesota. A year later, it rebranded as the American Manufacturing Company. In 1886, Oliver Crosby invented a wire rope clamp that allowed for the looping of wire cable without compromising its integrity. The American Manufacturing Company further contributed to the construction industry by introducing steam-powered hoists in 1889 and developing the largest electric hoists, reaching up to 15 horsepower.
