Specimen Stock printed by Canadian Bank Note Company Limited. Ontario, Canada. The Red Lake mine stands as one of the largest gold mines in both Canada and globally. Situated in northwestern Ontario, specifically at Red Lake, the mine was estimated to hold reserves of 3.23 million ounces of gold as of 2013. It is important to note that the Campbell and Red Lake mines exploit the same orebody, which is commonly known as the Campbell-Red Lake deposit. As of 2020, the Red Lake Mining District has yielded over 26 million ounces of gold, valued at more than $46 billion based on 2020 market prices. The two main mines, Campbell and Red Lake, are noted for their historical ore grades, which average approximately 0.57 ounces per ton of gold (22 grams per tonne). A notable specimen, referred to as the "Campbell Mine Whopper," contained an impressive 431 ounces of gold within a rock the size of a football.
