Rockwell Collins, Inc. was a global corporation based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, specializing in avionics and information technology systems and services for government entities and aircraft manufacturers. The company originated from the Collins Radio Company, which was acquired by Rockwell International in 1973 due to financial challenges. In 2001, Rockwell International's avionics division was separated to create the current Rockwell Collins, Inc., which retained its original name. On November 27, 2018, the company was acquired by United Technologies Corporation and now functions as part of Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation (previously known as Raytheon Technologies). Collins Radio Company was established by Arthur A. Collins in 1933 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The company focused on designing and manufacturing shortwave radio equipment as well as devices for the AM radio broadcast sector. Collins provided equipment to the military, scientific organizations, and major AM radio stations. Notably, Collins supplied the necessary equipment to facilitate communication for Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd's South Pole expedition in 1933.
