Inv# SE4347 Specimen StockNew York
Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. The origins of what is now known as Target Corporation trace back to June 1902, when George Dayton acquired a business named Goodfellow Dry Goods. In 1903, this enterprise was rebranded as Dayton's Dry Goods Company, and by 1910, it was further renamed the Dayton Company. The inaugural Target store was established in Roseville, Minnesota, in 1962, while the parent company adopted the name Dayton Corporation in 1967. Following a merger with the J. L. Hudson Company in 1969, it became known as the Dayton-Hudson Corporation, which owned several department store chains, including Dayton's, Hudson's, Marshall Field's, and Mervyn's.
In 2000, the Dayton-Hudson Corporation was officially renamed Target Corporation. The original Target retail store was co-founded by John Geisse and Douglas Dayton, who was the CEO of the Dayton Corporation at that time. The Dayton Corporation, now recognized as Target Corporation, was the organization for which John Geisse worked when he established the Target stores. Founded in Minneapolis by businessman George Dayton in 1902, the company expanded and evolved over the years through various acquisitions. The first discount store, which ultimately became the namesake of the company, was opened by American businessman John F. Geisse in 1962. After merging with the J.L. Hudson Company in 1969, the company became the Dayton-Hudson Corporation and previously owned several department store chains, including Dayton's, Hudson's, Marshall Field's, and Mervyn's. The parent company was renamed Target Corporation in 2000. It is important to note that, despite sharing a similar logo and name, Target Corporation is not connected to Target Australia.

Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
