John Deere (February 7, 1804 – May 17, 1886) was an American blacksmith, entrepreneur, inventor, and politician. He established Deere & Company, which has become one of the foremost manufacturers of agricultural and construction equipment globally. Originally from Rutland, Vermont, Deere relocated to Illinois, where he created the first commercially viable steel plow in 1837.
