Standard Refractories was built in 1914 in Claysburg and was later bought by General Refractories Co. The plant produced silica brick. The Sproul plant was built by General Refractories in 1911. Silica Bricks were made mostly from the ganister or silica rock from Dunnings or Sproul Mountain. Bricks were pressed or handmolded and placed in dryers to set-up or firm up before being loaded into kilns. Read more at https://www.claysburg.us/general-refractories-history.html
