Autograph of Jayne Mansfield on motel room note paper.

Jayne Mansfield, originally named Vera Jayne Palmer, was an American actress and Playboy Playmate, born on April 19, 1933, and passing away on June 29, 1967. Renowned as a sex symbol during the 1950s and early 1960s, she was famous for her various publicity stunts and her candid personal life. Despite a brief film career, she achieved several box-office hits and received accolades such as a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe Award, earning her the moniker of Hollywood's 'smartest dumb blonde.' Mansfield rose to fame with her portrayal of the fictional actress Rita Marlowe in the Broadway production of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter (1955–1956), a role she reprised in the 1957 film adaptation.

Her filmography includes notable works such as the musical comedy The Girl Can't Help It (1956), the drama The Wayward Bus (1957), the neo-noir Too Hot to Handle (1960), and the sex comedy Promises! Promises! (1963), the latter of which marked her as one of the first prominent American actresses to appear in a nude scene in a post-silent film era. She adopted her professional name from her first husband, public relations expert Paul Mansfield.

Throughout her life, she was married three times, with each marriage concluding in divorce, and she had five children. Mansfield was also romantically linked to several notable figures, including Robert and John F. Kennedy, her attorney Samuel S. Brody, and Las Vegas performer Nelson Sardelli. Tragically, she lost her life in a car accident at the young age of 34.
