La Quinta Inns & Suites is a limited-service hotel chain operating in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Honduras. La Quinta Holdings, Inc. made its initial public offering in April 2014. The corporate headquarters is located in Irving, Texas. As of December 31, 2018, the company managed 914 properties, comprising a total of 89,456 rooms. The inaugural La Quinta Inn was established in 1968 by real estate entrepreneur Sam Barshop (1929–2013) and his brother Phil (1935–1998) in San Antonio, Texas, situated across from the venue of the HemisFair '68 World's Fair. Initially, La Quinta's headquarters were based in San Antonio. In 1999, the company announced plans to relocate, resulting in the transfer of over 100 jobs to a different city. The decision was influenced by the absence of nonstop flights from San Antonio International Airport. The company aimed to position its headquarters closer to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, a major transportation hub. Approximately 300 employees involved in accounting, information systems, and reservations remained in San Antonio.
