The Lehigh Valley Railroad (reporting mark LV) was a prominent railway in the Northeastern United States, primarily built to transport anthracite coal from Pennsylvania’s Coal Region. It was authorized on April 21, 1846, for freight and passenger transport, along with goods and minerals within Pennsylvania. Officially incorporated on September 20, 1847, as the Delaware, Lehigh, Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad Company, its name was changed to the Lehigh Valley Railroad on January 7, 1853.

The railroad was often referred to as the "Route of the Black Diamond," a reference to the valuable anthracite coal it hauled, which was originally transported by boat down the Lehigh River. The Lehigh Valley Railroad ceased operations in 1976, merging into Conrail alongside several other northeastern railroads.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
