Leland Stanford (1824-1893), Railroad Builder. Approved several public grants to the transcontinental railroad, the enterprise which brought him wealth and upon which his reputation chiefly rests. He was part of the "Big Four" along with Collis P. Huntington, Charles Crocker, and Mark Hopkins.
