The Central Illinois Public Service Company, established in 1902, functioned as an electric streetcar holding company and power utility. It later evolved into CIPSCO Inc., a holding company valued at a quarter billion dollars, which merged in 1997 with the larger Union Electric Company of Missouri to create Ameren Corporation, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. AmerenCIPS now operates as a subsidiary and is based in Springfield, Illinois. In 1912, the CIPS Company became part of Samuel Insull's Middle West Utilities Company, which subsequently acquired 60 utility properties. The following year, it constructed the Kincaid Power Station in Illinois, a significant facility with a capacity of 6,000 kilowatts, marking the establishment of the first large-scale generating power station. In 1932, the Middle West Utilities Company underwent reorganization and became the Middle West Corporation, resulting in CIPS Company no longer being under Samuel Insull's control, although it remained under the governance of the Middle West Corporation.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
