1 Dollar Military Payment Certificate, Series 471. Military Payment Certificates (MPC) served as a currency specifically designed for compensating United States military personnel stationed in various foreign nations during the mid to late twentieth century. Their usage spanned from a few months following the conclusion of World War II until several months after the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War, covering the period from 1946 to 1973. These certificates were produced using line lithography, allowing for the creation of vibrant banknotes at a low cost. A total of fifteen series of MPCs were developed, although only thirteen series were actually issued. The remaining two series were predominantly destroyed, with only a few examples still in existence. Among the thirteen series that were released, a total of 94 distinct notes are officially recognized.
