The New York and Ottawa Railway served as a transportation link between Tupper Lake in northeastern New York and Ottawa, Ontario, passing through Ramsayville, Russell, Embrun, Finch, and Cornwall. Although it was acquired by the New York Central Railroad system in 1913, it had been under the ownership of the larger company since late 1904. Initially established as the Northern Adirondack Railroad, it underwent several transformations, becoming the Northern New York Railroad, then the New York and Ottawa Railroad, and ultimately being referred to as the New York and Ottawa Railway before its merger into the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. Additional lines associated with this route are detailed below.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
