According to the 2020 census, its population was recorded at 8,298, an increase from 7,291 in the 2010 census and 6,281 in the 2000 census, establishing Orland as the most populous and rapidly expanding city within Glenn County. The city is positioned 16 miles (26 km) north of Willows, at an elevation of 259 feet (79 m). Interstate 5, which runs north to south, is located to the west of the downtown area, while State Route 32, which runs east to west, traverses through the downtown. As a member of Bee City USA, Orland is recognized as the "Queen Bee Capital of North America," due to its significant production of queen bees, which is a vital component of the county's agricultural output. The city is also home to the Honeybee Discovery Center museum. Notable annual events include the Queen Bee Festival held in June and OktoBEEfest celebrated in October.
