Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. One of the most ancient railroad structures still in existence in New York State is the freight house of the Oswego and Syracuse Railroad, built in 1848, located in Oswego, New York. This structure can be found along West Utica Street, roughly one block to the west of the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&WRR) depot site. The Oswego and Syracuse Railroad was established on April 29, 1839, with the route being surveyed during the summer of that same year. The company achieved full organization on March 25, 1847. The railroad officially commenced operations on May 14, 1848, covering a total distance of 35.5 miles (57.1 km) from Syracuse, New York, to Oswego, New York. In 1872, it came under the management of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.
