It is divided into 100 sentimo, commonly referred to as centavos. The peso is represented by the symbol "?", which was adopted during the American colonial period, replacing the original dollar sign "$" that was prevalent in Spanish America. Other representations include "PHP", "PhP", "Php", or simply “P". The monetary policy in the Philippines is managed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which was established on July 3, 1993, as the nation's central bank. The BSP is responsible for producing the country's banknotes and coins at its Security Plant Complex, which is scheduled to relocate to New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
