Pixar Animation Studios is an American animation company located in Emeryville, California, recognized for its critically acclaimed and commercially successful computer-animated feature films. Since 2006, it has operated as a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, which is part of the Disney Entertainment division of the Walt Disney Company. The studio originated in 1979 as a segment of the Lucasfilm computer division, initially known as the Graphics Group, before becoming an independent corporation in 1986, with significant investment from Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, who became its majority shareholder. In January 2006, Disney acquired Pixar for a valuation exceeding $7.4 billion, converting each share of Pixar stock into 2.3 shares of Disney stock.
Pixar is particularly renowned for its feature films, which are technologically enhanced by RenderMan, the studio's proprietary implementation of the RenderMan Interface Specification image-rendering API. The studio's emblematic character is Luxo Jr., a desk lamp featured in its 1986 short film of the same name. As of October 2023, Pixar has released 27 feature films, beginning with Toy Story (1995), the first fully computer-animated feature film, and its latest release being Elemental (2023). Additionally, the studio has produced numerous short films. By July 2023, Pixar's feature films had collectively grossed over $15 billion at the global box office, averaging $546.9 million per film. Notably, Toy Story 3 (2010), Finding Dory (2016), Incredibles 2 (2018), and Toy Story 4 (2019) each surpassed $1 billion in earnings and rank among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time. Furthermore, 15 of Pixar's films are included in the list of the 50 highest-grossing animated films ever. The studio has received 23 Academy Awards, 10 Golden Globe Awards, and 11 Grammy Awards, in addition to numerous other accolades and recognitions.
Since its establishment in 2001, a total of eleven films produced by Pixar have received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. These films include Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010), Brave (2012), Inside Out (2015), Coco (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), and Soul (2020). Notably, both Toy Story 3 and Up received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Picture. On February 10, 2009, Pixar executives John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, and Lee Unkrich were honored with the Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival, with the physical award being presented to George Lucas, the founder of Lucasfilm.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
