Purolator, Inc. - Specimen Stock Certificate
Inv# SE1194 Specimen StockSpecimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. Purolator Inc. is a Canadian courier company, primarily owned by Canada Post. It was originally founded as Trans Canada Couriers, Ltd. and acquired in 1967 by Purolator, a U.S. manufacturer of oil and air filters. Despite keeping the Purolator name, the courier business has had no connection to the oil filter industry since 1987, when it returned to Canadian ownership.
The company began in the 1960s as a subsidiary of American Courier Corporation, starting with just two employees. In 1967, it was purchased by Purolator Filters, named after their oil filtration products ("Pure-oil-later" = "Purolator"). By 1970, the courier service operated a fleet of 84 vehicles. After its sale by Purolator Filters in 1987, the courier company retained the Purolator name.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
