Specimen Stock Certificate. Rare Popular Topic! Very Important and Rare! Savage Arms is an American gunmaker headquartered in Westfield, Massachusetts, with operations in Canada and China. The company manufactures a wide range of rimfire and centerfire rifles, in addition to Stevens single-shot rifles and shotguns. Its most famous products include the Model 99 lever-action rifle (which is no longer in production) and the .300 Savage cartridge. Until 2019, Savage was a subsidiary of Vista Outdoor before it was spun off.
Arthur Savage founded Savage Arms in 1894 in Utica, New York, with the company expanding to produce rifles, handguns, and ammunition within 20 years. Savage was responsible for introducing the first hammerless lever-action rifle, the Model 1895, which was based on Arthur Savage's earlier design for Colt in a failed attempt to secure a US Army rifle contract (which was instead awarded to the Krag–Jørgensen design). Although the Model 1895 won a contract with the New York National Guard, it was later canceled due to political controversy.
Savage was one of six companies in the United States Army trials for a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol and was among the two finalists before ultimately losing to Colt's design, which eventually became the M1911 pistol. Additionally, Savage marketed a series of .32 and .380 caliber pocket pistols, including the Models 1907, 1915, and 1917, all based on the same patents as their earlier .45 caliber prototype.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
