The Rust Craft Greeting Card Company was an American enterprise specializing in greeting cards and printing, as well as owning television stations. Established in 1906 by Fred Winslow Rust in a bookstore located in Kansas City, Missouri, the company initially produced its first Christmas card on sturdy tan paper, featuring a concise message in two colors. The popularity of this Christmas card led to the expansion of the business to include letters, postcards, and greeting cards complete with envelopes. Rust innovated the "French Fold" technique, which allowed a single sheet of paper to be transformed into a card by folding it into quarters. This company was the pioneer in offering greeting cards accompanied by fitted envelopes. Fred was later joined by his brother Donald, who took charge of manufacturing and financial operations, while Fred concentrated on the creative and sales dimensions of the business. Over time, the product range expanded to encompass cards for various holidays such as Valentine's Day, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, and Thanksgiving.
Additionally, the company produced cards featuring bon voyage and travel messages, as well as cards with Braille inscriptions. Eventually, the brothers retired from the bookstore and relocated to Massachusetts to dedicate their efforts to the greeting card business. Initially, the company operated from 1000 Washington Street in Boston's South End. However, due to the need for increased space, a new facility was constructed on Rustcraft Road in Dedham, Massachusetts, in 1954, which at that time became the largest greeting card factory globally. The company was originally known as United Printers and Publishers until 1962, when it began acquiring television and radio stations. This shift led to the rebranding of its greeting card line to Rust Craft Greeting Card Company, while the television division was designated as Rust Craft Broadcasting.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
