The company is based in Holmdel Township, New Jersey, and was established in 1998 under the name Min-X, initially focusing on residential telecommunications services utilizing voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). In 2001, the company rebranded itself as Vonage.

As of 2020, Vonage reported total revenues amounting to $1.25 billion. Following a series of acquisitions that began in 2013, Vonage transitioned from being primarily a consumer-oriented service provider to a significant player in the business-to-business sector, while still maintaining its residential VoIP services. The company's offerings encompass unified communications, contact center solutions, and communications APIs. In July 2022, Ericsson finalized its acquisition of Vonage for $6.2 billion.
