Alexander Charles Baillie Jr. OC, born on December 20, 1939, is a distinguished Canadian banker who previously held the position of CEO at TD Bank Financial Group until December 2002. He served as the 12th Chancellor of Queen's University and currently holds the title of Chancellor Emeritus. Baillie was born to Charles and Jean G. Baillie and spent his formative years in Orillia, Ontario. His educational journey began at the University of Toronto Schools. He pursued higher education at Trinity College, University of Toronto, where he majored in Honours Political Science and Economics. Baillie earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 and subsequently attended Harvard Business School, obtaining his Master of Business Administration in 1964. He commenced his career at the Toronto-Dominion Bank in 1964, eventually becoming president in 1995. In 1996, he led the bank's expansion into discount brokerage through the acquisition of Waterhouse Investor Services for $715 million. In 1997, he took over the role of CEO from Richard M. Thomson.
