In 1907, Hammond entered into matrimony with Barbara Whiting and assumed the role of purchasing agent at the Whiting Foundry Equipment Company, which was rebranded as Whiting Corporation in 1920. Throughout his professional journey, Hammond dedicated himself to the Whiting Corporation, ultimately rising to the positions of general manager, president, and chairman of the board. The company was established in 1884 by Hammond's father-in-law, John Hill Whiting, and relocated to Harvey, Illinois, in 1893. It specializes in the production of heavy machinery, including cranes and lifting devices.
